Gold tone bib necklace with black enamel. To me this necklace has an Egyptian Revival feel to it. In 1922 when Tutankhamen's tomb was discovered images of the Egyptian archaeological finds were seen throughout the western world. Egyptian jewelry was linked to ancient opulence and was viewed as very mysterious. Many costume jewelers quickly began producing their own version of Egyptian jewelry, many times using enamel inlays or animals such as jackals, falcons, beetles and cobras. This necklace has 17 oval decorated and enamel discs hanging from a decorated and enameled "V" shaped link. Measuring approximately 16 inches in length the necklace is secured by a screw together safety clasp. The enamel is in good condition with some small signs of wear consistent with age.
