Breathtaking snake pin with an opal center in 14 karat yellow gold. The snake is coiled around the irregular shaped opal. The opal does have some of the "host" rock showing from the mounting (The black areas) and is crazed from age, however not noticeable on a "regular" look. On the right side of the opal there is a crazed area and a very slight point where it does break the surface, but is not in any danger of falling out. However, the play of color of this opal is awesome! Many flashes of red, green and blue, and one side is darker than the other--it is really stunning! The back of the pin there is a stamp that says KOHN. From the research I have done it does appear that the pin came from Kohn & Company. They were jewelers in Newark N.J....they are described as making 10 and 14 karat gold jewelry but NOT bracelets or rings.
The pin is secured by an early "C" clasp with no lock---the "C" clasp is a bit misshapen however I can ask my jeweler to see if he can "straighten" it out. Set in the head of the snake is one old mine cut diamond with an approximate weight of 0.03 carats.

If your item needs to be sized, engraved etc., please add an additional 5 working days to shipping estimates. Antique jewelry requires skilled jewelers that are accustomed to working on fine antique jewelry, therefore we prefer that all sizing and alterations be preformed by our jewelers.
Each ring purchased from us includes one complimentary sizing. Please understand some rings cannot be sized, such as eternity bands, enameled rings or rings that would have to be sized so much that the integrity of the mounting would be compromised. It is for that reason we ask prior to purchase, that you ask if the ring can be sized to your specifications.

I love this brooch! It was a long wait and I'm so happy to finally have it in my possession! The colors are even more vibrant in person and the diamond sparkles beautifully. The little snake's face is so cute and charming. Patty was so lovely to work with too. Very patient with my (very long) layaway and so helpful and responsive to all questions and conversation. This specific brooch needed a little fixing up with the pin and it was handled very well - it's very secure now while keeping the originality of the brooch intact. Everything was shipped out super quick and it even came with a lovely little pearl bracelet gift. I can't imagine anyone not having a pleasant shopping experience here at Dorothy Gallun's and I give them my highest recommendations! Thank you so much Patty, it was such a pleasure!
